Environmental Advantages
The effects of deforestation are well known, which is why the importance of responsibly sourced timber cannot be overstated. Trees help mitigate the effects of climate change and so we recognise the vital role of sustainable wood and responsible forest management. Sustainably-produced wood has a number of environmental benefits:
It is 100% renewable – Wood grows naturally so this makes it a reusable, recyclable, recoverable and bio-degradable material when managed responsibly, unlike non-renewable fossil fuels.
Reduced carbon footprint – Wood requires less embodied energy than other materials so from harvest right through to use and disposal, it has the lowest environmental impact compared to other building materials.
It stores Carbon Dioxide – Responsibly managed forests where new trees are planted naturally and efficiently remove C02 from the atmosphere, the most common greenhouse gas. Even after a tree is harvested and used, the carbon remains stored in the product.
At Taylor Made Planters, we support sustainability by only using certified quality wood that is legally harvested. So we can guarantee that every one of our wooden planters is built with high quality hardwood or softwood that comes from a sustainable source. Our products also come with a 10 year timber guarantee!
Other benefits of sustainable wood as a material
Attractive finish – With so many different types of hardwood and softwood available, there is an incredible range of aesthetic options when working with timber. Each type has a unique pattern, colour and aroma and can be easily painted and varnished to make it darker or brighter in colour. This makes timber an amazing material for building garden planters.
Highly durable – Hardwood is naturally durable as it comes from slow-growing trees and so it is highly reliable for joinery, construction and furniture. It is also really easy to work with and maintain, so we can build our planters in a wide range of shapes and sizes.
Non-toxic – We work with premium Accoya, a modified timber with green credentials. It is non-toxic, 100% recyclable and fully biodegradable. To increase the longevity of our planters and prevent rot, we treat all of the timber we use with a high quality pressure treatment this is non-toxic. This means that the wood is safe to burn as it won’t release any harmful toxins into the environment.
Reducing our carbon footprint
As well as using sustainable wood to build our planters, as a company we take steps to reduce our environmental impact. We careful consider our transportation process, delivering our own products to our customers so that we can plan delivery routes and make them as efficient as possible. We’re also paperless, only sending invoices digitally to reduce the amount of paper and ink that we use. Our off cuts and shavings are also reused locally to power central heating.
