Hand Thrown Clay Planters
All of our terracotta planters are hand thrown on a potters wheel from the island of Crete, the largest island off the Greek coast, each possessing its own quirks making a unique focal point to your garden. The technique, passed down the generations creates a fabulous piece which is renowned for lasting a lifetime if the correct care is followed. The porous quality of the Cretan clay planters means that excess water can escape easier than conventional pots and vital air is able to feed through to the roots. Simply ensure your potted mixture is well-drained for optimal longevity.
Weather Resistant
Add a Grecian touch to your garden whether rain, snow or shine; we ensure all of our terracotta planters feature an in-house waterproof coating and are made with a laborious cooling process meaning that the clay has a weather resistant quality even in cooler, frostier and harsh Blighty winters. For sunnier days, simply watch the rays reflect a warm glow throughout your garden, offering a talking point when entertaining friends and family.
Choose your unique style
Choose from our traditional terracotta planters such as the stunning wide style vase ‘Heraklion’ named after the island’s bustling capital, or the ‘Pithos’ which is ideal for more slender shrubs. We can even custom design your clay making an exceptional piece of ancient art to any outdoor space. For a Mediterranean feel we recommend tending to an olive or lemon tree in your favourite planter.
The Cretan Terracotta History
The history of Cretan terracotta can be traced back to the Minoan civilisation, around 3000 BC. The Minoan’s used large open neck pots to store grains & liquids and to decorate Palaces adding a luxurious foreign finish to your business or garden. There really is no better way than to add some classical charm to your outdoor space than these traditional Greek clay pots which can be used for either freestanding or for showcasing an array of herbs, trees or plants.
