Cedar and Redwood are the most favoured for wooden garden pots. Cedar because of its long-lasting qualities, natural resistance to rotting and fungi, as it contains natural oils that preserve the wood’s quality. And redwood because of it’s similar resistance, smooth appearance and beautiful red tone that will enrich any exterior space. However, here at Taylor Made Planters, we use a selection of high-quality hardwood and softwood including Redwood, Cedar, Pine, Iroko, Accoya and Yellow Balau, any of which will last you for many years to come if maintained properly.
Fibreglass planters are durable containers made from fibre-reinforced plastic, a lightweight material that has the flexibility to be moulded to any specification. This low maintenance, anti-magnetic, fire-resistant, and weatherproof garden pot is perfect for both indoor and outdoor surroundings.
Fibreglass planters are increasingly becoming the first choice for homeowners and professional landscape designers alike. This is because they possess a wide range of sought out qualities in both indoor and outdoor settings such as superior weather resistance and versatility, not to mention they are incredibly lightweight.
Fibreglass is low maintenance but we recommend that all planters of this material are cleaned at least twice a year. Please note that some cleaners may damage or affect the material. Do not clean with steel wool, sandpaper, solvents or any other abrasive material. Cleaning with a pressure washer can also cause damage.
Absolutely, you just need to select the right type of metal container. Some metal pots are prone to overheating which can damage your plants. Our collection of galvanised steel, aluminium and corten steel planters have been carefully designed to avoid this and be a great option for your plants. Aluminium containers, in particular, have the highest strength to weight ratio of the three, but whichever option you choose, the larger the better as it further helps to dissipate heat.
Aluminium and galvanised steel planters are highly resistant to rust and corrosion, featuring a scratch resistant coating and a coat of Iron Steel mixed with a layer of Zinc respectively. Thus you can safely place them outdoors and trust they will look beautiful for many years to come with little to no maintenance required. On the other hand, corten steel containers naturally develop a protective layer of rust that generates that sought after orange brown colour. This process takes about 4-5 months and provides long lasting protection against corrosion.
